A Presidents Day Craft

By Macaroni Kid Roseville-Rocklin-Lincoln and Citrus Heights February 14, 2019

The kids will have a day off of school for Presidents Day and you'll need to find ways to keep them busy. Here's a little craft project they can do that relates to the holiday. Once they complete them, they'll have fun playing with them, too.

Here's what you will need:

  • Black, White, and Blue Construction Paper
  • A Penny and a Quarter
  • Black Pen or Marker
  • 12" White Yarn*
  • 1-1/2" White Lace*
  • Tape
  • Glue Stick

Download the pattern. Cut a 3"X3" square from both the black and blue pieces of construction paper. Cut Lincoln's top hat from black construction paper, and Washington's hat from blue construction paper. Cut the small triangle from white paper. Mark 3 dots on the triangle.

Wrap each square around finger and tape it making a tube. Using the photo as a guide, tape and glue things into place:
Tape the quarter at the top of the blue tube and the penny at the top of the black tube. Be sure the faces of the presidents are facing out.
Glue the white triangle and black top hat onto Lincoln.
Glue the lace below the quarter on Washington. Fold the yarn several times, and glue or tape it above and across the top of the quarter. Glue or tape his hat on at the top.

*If you don't have white yarn or lace you could cut out hair and a lace collar from construction paper.

Optional: If you don't have a penny or quarter around, cut a small circle from construction paper for faces, and have the kids draw a face on them.

There are some great books kids can read to learn about presidents. Dear Mr. Washington by Lynn Cullen, Abe Lincoln: His Wit and Wisdom from A-Z by John O'Brien, and What Presidents are Made Of by Hanoch Piven are just a few. If you have Amazon Prime, you can get the Kindle version of The Everything Kid's President Book with puzzles, games, and trivia so they can learn more about presidents on this day of honoring them.

Happy Presidents Day!
