Yummy Holiday Treats

By Macaroni Kid Roseville-Rocklin-Lincoln and Citrus Heights December 11, 2017

We decided to try our hand at some cute festive treats again for the holidays. The kids get a kick out of it. I went to the store and bought cookies, candy, sprinkles, chocolate chips and colored coating. I printed out a bunch of cute treats the kids could choose from to make and inspire them.

When it was time, I pulled out some wax paper and made individual stations at the table. Each station had Oreos (regular and mini), Nutter Butter Cookies, large and small marshmallows (some on a stick), M&Ms (regular and mini baking size), candy eyes in 2 sizes, pretzels (both stick and twists), some "snowmen carrot noses" (out of cut orange Starburst), graham crackers, candy canes, andย  mini Reeses. I had the sprinkles and some squeeze gel for them all to use.

The kids started right in, doing their own creative take on the photo ideas and making their own creations. There were 3 of us adults around, and we all decided to get in on the action, too. None of ours look as pretty as the Pinterest ones we found, but everyone had fun, and that's what counts.ย The place looked pretty messy when everyone was done, but it was a quick clean up.ย

I took the extra melted chocolate, cookies and other goodies, and make a holiday bark from it, and drizzled some of the chocolate and sprinkles onto some popcorn, too (a favorite around here). That way all the melted chocolate and candy coatings were used all up, and I didn't have any extra goodies around either. After that all I had to do was ball up the wax paper, and throw it out, and clean up random drips. The wax paper really helped save the table from most the drips and mess. The kids all took their creations home, and we have a few treats for us, too.
